Class Library

If you can't afford to start building a class library, and if students always forget to bring a book for reading time this is an alternative.
1. Each week for a month have the students find a magazine article, story, internet article, print it off, and bring it to class.
2. Have the student paste their article onto a piece of cardboard (old cereal boxes work well) and make a clear title, and keywords for the content
3. Collect the boards and laminate them.
4. Within a few weeks you'll have upwards of 100 articles for students to choose between for reading time.

Resources

A FANTASTIC sight called ReadWriteThink. Hundreds of lesson plan ideas around reading and writing, and the best part is the student materials section that has for example, a comic creator, character analysis mapping, crossword puzzle generator, CD cover creator (and those are just some of the Cs!) and then it also lists possible lessons you can use the interactive tools in.
